Style Rules 2! Get the Skinny!

This entry is about skinny ties. According to GQ magazine, we should always keep the ties skinny. Adding a tie into your business casual outfit is a great way to look professional and business casual at the same time because you are not wearing a suit with your tie. Recently, skinny ties have been gaining popularity. Today, most manufactures will only make skinny ties and will not make wider ties anymore due to the demand. It is always good to get the right width of a tie.
What you need to know:

  • skinny tie is considered any tie that is below 3 inches at the widest point
  • sold in 3 sizes: 2 inches, 2.5 inches and 3 inches
  • try on all 3 sizes to see which one looks the best
  • the colours that go with the most amount of outfits are grey, blue, and brown
  • the only knot you need to know is the simple knot
  • avoid getting a tie that is less than 2 inches as it will look more like a string

Below is a picture of ties from thetiebar.com. They are sold in all 3 sizes, various colours, different patterns, various fabrics and they are only $15 each. I have personally bought the ties and have never had a problem with shipping and the quality is comparable to $30- $50 ties from Tommy Hilfiger, Winners, and The Bay.

  2. This is a great post on ties, Dilraj. Wide ties are truly out of fashion at this point and skinny ties can be really expensive due to the high demand. Thanks for posting the TieBar link; it is a great alternative to in-store shopping. I look forward to purchasing some ties from them!
